MusicFest  Aberystwyth Summer School

Musicfest Vocal Course is a week-long summer school which takes place at the end of July within MusicFest week at Aberystwyth University. Musicfest has been running for over 30 years but this vocal course was established in 2008.  John Flinders, pianist, and I were keen to devise an intense course for serious classical singers to gain a broader knowledge of vocal repertoire and greater confidence in performance and technique.  Each day starts with a guided warm-up session for all participants, who then separate into two groups; the tutors work with both groups equally.

The course is appropriate for singers aged 17 upwards who are serious about their studies.  The tutors’ approach is informal, and always supportive and encouraging.  It is a busy and vibrant week and our aim is for everyone to leave with even greater enthusiasm for singing and with improved skills. The course cover many aspects of singing including: performance skills, technique, interpretation, style, communication, languages, musicianship, confidence building, experience of working with a pianist and preparation for auditions.   The many concerts of Musicfest week are free for all course participants.  This year's tutors are Veronica Veysey Campbell, Liza Hobbs, Dr Ron Morris with pianists & vocal coaches John Flinders, Andrew Robinson and Libby Burgess.

“This course is really different in offering a coherent technical approach that is immensely valuable for developing singers and a team teaching approach that supports and values everyone’s approach. The tutors are skilled, sensitive, generous and caring and I’ve learned a huge amount from all of them.”

“This course offers a safe place with NO negativity.  It is so refreshing.”

“This course and the quality of teaching has changed my life. I found a voice I never knew I had and the tools to nurture and develop it.”
